There’s nothing quite like Tanzania.
A land where elephants wander beneath ancient baobabs, lions stretch in tall golden grass, and some of the most extraordinary landscapes on Earth seem to stretch forever. Picture the morning mist lifting over the Ngorongoro Crater, your first glimpse of wildlife across the vast Serengeti, or the quiet thrill of realizing there’s an elephant crossing the road just ahead of you. These are the moments you come to Tanzania for.
But this journey is about so much more than safari.
We’ll take you from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti, combining unforgettable wildlife encounters with opportunities to experience Tanzania through the people who call it home. Meet local artisans, spend time with Maasai families, discover the communities and traditions beyond the national parks, and stay in handpicked lodges and tented camps that bring you closer to the landscapes around you.
And then Tanzania changes completely.
We’ll leave the wide-open plains behind and fly to Zanzibar, where turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, centuries of history, and the scent of spices welcome us to island life. Explore the winding streets of Stone Town, discover the flavors and traditions of the island, and enjoy time to simply slow down beside the Indian Ocean.
It’s the contrast that makes this journey so special: wildlife and culture, adventure and ease, savannah and sea. And through it all, we’ve created opportunities to slow down, connect, learn, and experience Tanzania rather than simply pass through it.
It’s not just a safari. It’s a story... And you’re living it.

Activity Level is MODERATE. This journey is designed for travelers who enjoy being active but don’t need anything extreme. Expect full days that include light walking at lodges and villages, occasional uneven terrain, and some early mornings.
Safari days may mean several hours at a time in 4x4 vehicles traveling over rough or bumpy roads, along with regularly climbing in and out of the vehicle.
There may be optional short hikes, including a walk to a waterfall near Karatu, but nothing technical or strenuous.
The biggest requirement is being comfortable with longer days, varied terrain, and a little unpredictability along the way. If you enjoy full days of exploring balanced with comfortable accommodations and time to unwind, you’ll be right at home on this trip.
This tour is for curious travelers who have dreamed of an African safari but want to experience more than wildlife alone. You’ll love this journey if you’re excited by incredible game drives and wide-open landscapes, but equally interested in meeting local people, learning about Maasai culture, connecting with artisans, and experiencing everyday life in Tanzania. You should enjoy full days of exploration, early mornings, a little dust and unpredictability, and the occasional bumpy road, balanced with beautiful accommodations, good meals, and time to slow down.
If you value adventure, cultural connection, wildlife, and meaningful experiences over simply checking destinations off a list, Tanzania may be calling your name.

We’ll spend our first full day getting to know Arusha through some of the people who call it home.
We’ll visit several local organizations doing incredible grassroots work, from artisans with disabilities creating beautiful handcrafted pieces to caretakers supporting children with albinism. These are the kinds of experiences we love at TNN: opportunities to meet people, hear their stories, and better understand everyday life in the places we visit.
We’ll have lunch at Shanga Craft Centre, a social enterprise providing employment and creative opportunities for Tanzanians with disabilities, then wander through a local market before heading back to our lodge for a relaxed evening.

Time to see what we came for... wildlife!
After breakfast, we’ll head into Tarangire National Park, where enormous elephant herds roam among ancient baobab trees and wildlife gathers along the Tarangire River. This is our first true safari day, and there’s nothing quite like that first moment you spot an elephant, giraffe, zebra, or lion in the wild.
We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing toward Karatu. Along the way, we’ll visit a Maasai boma, a traditional family village, where we’ll have an opportunity to meet local families and learn about Maasai traditions, customs, and daily life directly from our hosts.
Then it’s on to our lodge in Karatu for dinner and a good night’s rest after one very memorable first safari day.
Lodging: Olea Farm Lodge, Karatu
Meals: B, L, D
Today is all about experiencing another side of Tanzania in the green hills and farmland surrounding Karatu.
We’ll start with a waterfall hike along mineral paths once carved into the hillsides by elephants (yes, really!). Then we’ll spend the day connecting with the community through a mix of local experiences that may include coffee plantations, traditional brickmaking kilns, village walks, craft workshops, schools, and grassroots organizations.
This is a day for slowing down, asking questions, meeting people, and getting a glimpse of everyday life beyond Tanzania’s national parks. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch along the way before returning to our lodge for a relaxed evening.
Lodging: Olea Farm Lodge, Karatu
Meals: B, L
Ohhh get ready... this day is something special!
Today we descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most extraordinary wildlife environments on Earth. As we make our way down the crater walls, an entire ecosystem opens up below us: grasslands, forests, lakes, and an incredible concentration of wildlife living within this ancient volcanic caldera. Keep your eyes open for lions, zebras, elephants, flamingos, and even the elusive black rhino.
We’ll spend the morning exploring the crater and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by some truly spectacular scenery.
Then... we’re off to the Serengeti. Even the journey there is part of the adventure, as the landscape opens into seemingly endless plains and enormous skies. By evening, we’ll arrive at our tented camp, settle in for dinner, and experience something else pretty magical: our first night sleeping in the Serengeti.
Yep. We’re really here.
Lodging: Land of Nature Tented Camp, Serengeti NP
Meals: B, L, D
Today is the day you’ve been dreaming about: a full day out in the legendary Serengeti!
We’ll head out after breakfast with our expert guides to see what the day brings. Every game drive here is different, and that’s the magic of it. Lions lounging in the tall grass, elephants crossing right in front of our vehicle, maybe a cheetah scanning the horizon from a rocky outcrop... you just never know.
If we’re lucky, we might even catch a glimpse of the Great Migration: vast herds of wildebeest and zebra moving across the plains as part of one of the world's great wildlife migrations. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch out in the wild, with the sounds of Africa all around us, then head back to camp in the late afternoon.
There, dinner will be waiting, and the stars? Absolutely unreal out here. Grab a drink, sit by the fire, and just soak it all in.

Time to trade the roar of lions for the crash of ocean waves. This morning we’ll catch a small plane right from the Serengeti. And trust us, this flight is incredible. You’ll look down over endless golden plains and winding rivers, spotting herds from above. Then we’ll connect in Arusha and head straight to Zanzibar, Tanzania’s “Spice Island.”
When we arrive in Zanzibar, we’ll make our way north to Nungwi, where white sand meets the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. And after several exhilarating days of safari, there’s absolutely nothing on the agenda this afternoon.
Take a swim, find yourself a cold drink, sink your toes into the sand, or simply watch the sun disappear over the Indian Ocean. This is our first chance to slow waaay down... and we’ve earned it.
Lodging: Amaan Beach Bungalows, Nungwi, Zanzibar
Meals: B
Ahhh, island life. Today’s all about doing what makes you happiest. Want to go snorkeling or scuba diving in the clear turquoise waters surrounding Zanzibar? Go for it. Prefer a lazy beach day with your feet in the sand and a good book in hand? That’s perfectly acceptable too.
You can also hop on a sunset cruise, wander through local fishing villages, or explore tide pools along the coast. Whatever you choose, the pace here is easy — and that’s exactly the point. After so many days of safari excitement, Zanzibar gives us a chance to slow down, recharge, and just be.
Lodging: Amaan Beach Bungalows, Nungwi, Zanzibar
Meal: B
After breakfast, we’ll make our way south toward Stone Town, stopping along the way at one of Zanzibar’s famous spice farms. We’ll walk among cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, and other tropical plants, learning how they’re grown, harvested, and used while tasting and smelling them along the way. It’s a delicious introduction to the spices that have shaped Zanzibar’s cuisine, culture, and history for centuries.
Once we reach Stone Town, we’ll dive right into the culture with a hands-on Zanzibari cooking class where we’ll make our own lunch. Then we’ll explore this fascinating historic city with our local guide; weaving through narrow alleys, checking out old markets, learning about the many cultures and histories that have shaped this remarkable island, and maybe even popping by Freddie Mercury’s childhood home (yep, he was born here).
Tonight we’ll gather for our farewell dinner by the sea and raise a glass to an unforgettable adventure together.
Lodging: Tembo House Hotel, Stone Town, Zanzibar
Meals: B, L, D
Our final morning, and what a journey it’s been! Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and a little free time before your flight. Wander Stone Town’s shops, grab a coffee by the water, or take one last walk through those winding streets.
From elephants beneath ancient baobabs and nights under Serengeti skies to Maasai communities, hidden waterfalls, spice farms, and the shores of Zanzibar... we’ve experienced so many different sides of Tanzania together.
Until the next adventure!

We are The Nomadic Network, a small-group tour company for people who want to travel, not just vacation.
We bring curious travelers together to experience the world in a way that feels personal, meaningful, and connected to the places we visit. That might mean sharing a meal with a local family, learning from an artisan, exploring with someone who calls the destination home, or lingering over dinner with people who were strangers just days ago.
Our journeys blend the places you came to see with experiences that take you deeper into local life. We work with incredible local partners, choose quality and comfort where they matter, and create the right mix of exploration, connection, adventure, and downtime.
And perhaps our favorite part? The people. Our travelers often arrive as strangers and leave with new friendships alongside some pretty incredible memories.
Come travel with us. You just might find your people. ❤️
