About this trip

Answer the Call of Peru.

From the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu, this is the adventure your spirit has been waiting for.

Journey through Peru and experience extraordinary culture, breathtaking landscapes, and one seriously bucket-list-worthy adventure... all with a little help from Pachamama, the Andean Mother Earth who watches over it all.

Begin in Cusco, the historic heart of the Inca Empire, exploring ancient sites and colorful markets before venturing into the spectacular Sacred Valley. From the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo to a traditional Despacho ceremony honoring Pachamama, you’ll connect with Peru’s living traditions and spiritual roots.

Then comes the moment that changes everything: the legendary Inca Trail. Traditionally trekked over four days, we’ll take on its incredible final section in one challenging, unforgettable day. Follow ancient stone pathways through misty cloud forests, climb seemingly endless Inca stairways, discover archaeological sites accessible only by trail, and take in jaw-dropping Andean scenery few travelers ever experience firsthand.

And then... the Sun Gate. Your first glimpse of Machu Picchu.

There’s nothing quite like it. Emotional, surreal, and incredibly triumphant, you’ll arrive at the Lost City of the Incas on foot, joining the relatively small number of travelers who experience Machu Picchu through the iconic Inca Trail itself. You’ll be tired. You’ll be exhilarated. And you’ll remember that first glimpse forever.

The adventure continues at the dazzling salt mines of Maras, the mysterious circular terraces of Moray, and across the shimmering waters of Lake Titicaca, where we’ll connect with local communities and experience life high in the Andes.

Along the way, enjoy thoughtfully selected boutique hotels and lodges, wonderful Peruvian meals, and the camaraderie of a small group of curious travelers who believe travel should be about more than simply seeing a place.

This is Peru experienced deeply, adventurously, and with plenty of Pachamama magic along the way.

🥾Physical Expectations & Activity Level

Activity Level is: HIGH. This is an active adventure designed for travelers who are comfortable being on their feet, navigating uneven terrain, and occasionally pushing themselves physically. You do not need to be an experienced hiker, but a good level of fitness and preparation before the trip are strongly recommended.

The most challenging day is our one-day Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu. We’ll cover approximately 12 km / 7.5 miles over 6–7 hours, reaching a high point of 2,720 m / 8,924 ft. Expect significant elevation changes, steep and uneven ancient stone steps, inclines and descents, and sections that can be slippery when wet. It’s challenging, but the reward of reaching the Sun Gate and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time on foot is extraordinary.

Throughout the tour, expect plenty of additional walking on cobblestones, hills, stairs, archaeological sites, village paths, and uneven surfaces, often at elevation. Our Lake Titicaca experience also includes boat travel and walking on islands with sloped and uneven terrain.

Altitude is an important consideration on this tour. We’ll spend several days above 10,000 feet, including time in Cusco and the Lake Titicaca region. Altitude affects everyone differently, regardless of age or fitness, so our itinerary allows time to acclimatize and we encourage travelers to take it slowly, hydrate, and listen to their bodies.

Comfortable, broken-in hiking shoes are essential. We’ll provide detailed packing recommendations and preparation tips well before departure so you can arrive ready to enjoy the adventure.

Come prepared to move, climb, explore, and earn a few of those spectacular views. We promise they’re worth it!

🧭Is This Tour for You?

This tour is for curious, adventurous travelers who want to experience Peru beyond Machu Picchu. You’ll love it if ancient cultures fascinate you, local traditions matter as much as famous sights, and you’re excited to experience everything from a Pachamama ceremony and Andean communities to colorful markets and life on Lake Titicaca.

You should also enjoy being active and be willing to challenge yourself. The Inca Trail will test you, but walking through the Sun Gate into Machu Picchu makes every hard-earned step worth it.

If you appreciate comfortable accommodations, great food, meaningful cultural connection, a little adventure, and traveling with a small group of like-minded explorers, this may just be your Pachamama calling. 🌿

🤝Our Group Travel Philosophy

At The Nomadic Network, we believe group travel should give you the best of both worlds: a wonderful group of people to share the experience with, and the freedom to still travel like yourself.

Our small-group tours are designed for curious travelers who enjoy experiencing a destination together, sharing meals and adventures, and getting to know the people they're traveling with. But you don't have to do everything together. There’s always room to recharge, wander on your own when time allows, or simply enjoy a little space. No forced fun here.

We travel thoughtfully and with curiosity, taking time to learn about the places we visit, support local communities and businesses, try the food, understand the history, and experience more than just the major sights.

Our hope is pretty simple: that you come home having experienced an incredible part of the world, learned a few things, laughed a lot, and maybe even made some wonderful new friends along the way.

Ollantaytambo & Sacred Valley Project

Experience an unforgettable day in the Sacred Valley, starting with the ancient Despacho ceremony. The activity is absolutely optional, and this profound ritual embodies celebration, reverence, and gratitude, offering a deep connection to the Apus, the sacred mountains, and the principle of Ayni, which emphasizes balance and harmony. Engage in deep meditation, create a sacred space, and express gratitude for past blessings and future abundance.

Afterward, explore the Ollantaytambo archaeological site, where you'll marvel at impressive Incan structures like the Temple of the Sun and the Wall of the Six Monoliths. We'll sit down and chat with those involved in the organization, as well as enjoy lunch on the property.

Uros, Lake Titicaca

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before setting out for Lake Titicaca, one of the most fascinating destinations of our journey. Today’s drive to Puno takes approximately 7.5–8 hours, but we’ll travel comfortably aboard a well-equipped bus with reclining seats, A/C, Wi-Fi, and stops along the way as the landscapes of the Peruvian highlands unfold outside our windows.

Arriving in Puno, we’ll trade wheels for water and board a boat across Lake Titicaca to the extraordinary floating islands of Uros. For centuries, the Uru people have constructed these islands by hand using layers of locally grown totora reeds, creating homes, boats, and entire communities that quite literally float on the lake.

We’ll learn how the islands are built and maintained, walk across their wonderfully springy reed surfaces, and spend time connecting with members of the Uru community before settling into one of the most distinctive accommodations of our trip.

Tonight, we’ll stay in a charming floating lodge right on Lake Titicaca, with cozy rooms and inviting decks surrounded by water and mountains. As the sun sets across the lake, we’ll gather with our hosts for a home-cooked dinner and an evening we won’t soon forget!
